Höga Kusten is home to two world-class distilleries. Both Hernö Gin and High Coast Whiskey have both received buckets of awards for their products.
Now little brother Bröderna Bommen is also calling for attention.
High Coast Whisky
The former Box power plant on the banks of the Ångerman River was threatened with demolition. But it was saved at the last moment and first became an art gallery and then in 2010 a whiskey distillery. And what dripped out of the pot-bellied copper pots almost immediately stunned the whiskey world.
Since then, development has gone straight up for what is today called High Coast Whisky. Not only does it produce award-winning single malt whisky, it has also expanded with a visitor center and warehouse buildings, and has a wide-ranging event business with screenings, tastings and conferences.

FIND High Coast Whiskey is located on the east side of the Ångermanälven in Kramfors municipality. Drive road 334 to Kungsgården. From there it is signposted to the distillery.
WATCH The visitor center is open every day until August. Screenings are offered several times each day. The safest is to book. On five occasions during the summer, the historical display “In cooperation with a river” is also carried out.
TASTE Samples once per day. A very wide range of own products is also available in the restaurant’s bar.

Hernö Gin
Hernö Gin stands for a similar rocket journey. In 2011, it simmered for the first time in the copper pot Kärstin in Dala west of Härnösand. After fine-tuning the secret recipe, Hernö Gin met the customers and the gin world with its artisanal drink – and it was a success. Today, the brand is extremely well established and the demand has meant that the facility has had to multiply its capacity and also been able to expand with premises for screenings and events.
At the start in 2011, Härnö Gin was the world’s northernmost gin distillery. You are not anymore because interest in gin has exploded and new producers have appeared. However, you are the world’s best gin distillery. No other producer has won so many prizes in international competitions in recent years.
Nowadays, Hernö Gin also has its own bar on Söder in Stockholm, near the Slussen subway. A highlight that in a short time has established itself as a popular place to hang out.
FIND Hernö Gin is located approximately 10 kilometers west of Härnösand. Take road 718 towards Stigsjö and Viksjö. Turn right into Locke where it is signposted to the distillery.

Bröderna Bommen
A newer and smaller player in the industry is the ambitious Bröderna Bommen in Njurundabommen south of Sundsvall. There is great interest in all kinds of flavors here, after starting as a small-scale beer brewery, the business has gradually expanded with new parts.
In 2017, a distillery was established and vodka and spiced brandy as well as gin are now produced there. A self-produced whiskey is also included in the future plans.
The business is still conducted on a small scale, but tours of the brewery and distillery, which are under the same roof, can be arranged. In the bakery, people like to eat bread and food made from scratch using ingredients that, as far as possible, are locally produced, in season and organic.
FIND Bröderna Bommen is located in Njurundabommen about 15 kilometers south of Sundsvall. The fastest way is if you drive the E4 south and turn off towards the Njurunda barrier at the Njurunda traffic area. When you have passed over Ljungan, turn left at the first roundabout onto Klockarbergsvägen.

TASTE No screenings are planned for summer 2021. All of the distillery’s products are, however, available for purchase in the bar at Bröderna Bommen.
